Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

Compulsory Basic Training is the first step on the ladder to riding a motorcycle on the road. No matter what size or style of bike you want to ride, you must successfully complete this course first. The CBT is an assessment and can usually be completed in a day. All you need to undertake this course is a licence with provisional motorcycle or moped entitlement.

Once you have successfully completed the course you will be entitled to ride any machine up to 125cc, subject to age and licence restrictions.

The CBT can be carried out on a machine with clutch and gears, or on an automatic (scooter or moped).

The course itself is divided into 5 modules and you must successfully complete all modules before the certificate can be issued:-

Module A    Covers safety equipment and clothing.

Module B    Covers daily and weekly machine checks and placing the

motorcycle on and off the main stand.

Module C    Is conducted in a safe ‘off-road’ environment and comprises

                   of various machine control exercises.

Module D    Is a road safety briefing covering what to do in a wide

                   variety of on-road scenarios.

Module E    Is a 2 hour on-road riding assessment during which you

cover varied road conditions and environments from country

                   lanes to dual carriageways.
